This September, Lagos will once again play host to Africa’s biggest gathering of travel and tourism professionals as the 21st Akwaaba African Travel Market returns to the iconic Eko Hotel and Suites from 14–16 September 2025.

With Air Peace, Lagos State, The Gambia, Wakanow, and Interswitch as official partners, this year’s edition is set to raise the bar. For two decades, Akwaaba has been the beating heart of West Africa’s travel calendar, bringing together the continent’s tourism boards, airlines, hotels, travel agencies, and government representatives under one roof.

What makes 2025 special? Organisers promise the largest gathering of airlines ever hosted at an African travel expo, making Lagos a true hub for aviation connectivity and partnerships. Over 3,000 participants are expected, from local entrepreneurs and hospitality providers to international buyers and global brands.

Alongside the main exhibition, the 5th Chinet Aviacargo Conference will also run, linking tourism with the fast-growing air cargo sector.

What to Expect

  • Day One (Sunday, 14 September): Exhibitions open, followed by the grand ceremony. Food lovers will be treated to the much-loved Jollof Rice War, while the evening will shine with the Top 100 Hotel Awards and the prestigious Travellers Awards.
  • Day Two (Monday, 15 September): A full day of exhibitions, B2B sessions, and exciting country showcases. Highlights include the Domestic Tourism Session, the Women in Tourism Conference, and the glamorous Africa Travel 100 Awards, capped with an East African cocktail evening.
  • Final Day (Tuesday, 16 September): Business takes centre stage with an Insurance Conference, the Cargo and Export Conference, and the vibrant Youth Tourism Conference.

Since its humble beginnings, Akwaaba has grown into a global brand, bridging cultures, creating opportunities, and celebrating Africa’s diverse travel experiences.

As the organisers put it: “Akwaaba continues to be the melting pot of Africa’s tourism, aviation, and hospitality industries. With strong partnerships this year, we are showcasing Africa as the world’s next tourism frontier.”

For Lagos, the event isn’t just about business—it’s about energy, creativity, and hospitality. The 21st Akwaaba African Travel Market will once again reaffirm the city’s place as Africa’s tourism and business capital, while giving local and international travellers plenty to look forward to.
