Abuja is positioning itself as a new Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) hub in Africa, backed by renewed infrastructure and stronger international connectivity. The Nigerian government recently reopened the Abuja International Conference Centre, adding momentum to the capital’s ambitions to attract large-scale global events.

Ethiopian Airlines 787 Business Class

Supporting this growth, Ethiopian Airlines will expand its Abuja operations from October 28, 2025. Africa’s largest carrier will add three weekly evening flights to its existing daily midday service, providing passengers with greater flexibility and faster connections. The new 10p.m. departures from Abuja (ET 957) will arrive in Addis Ababa at 5 a.m., linking travellers to destinations across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, including Dubai, Tel Aviv, São Paulo and Mumbai.

“By introducing extra flights, we are improving service delivery and reducing costs for travellers,” said Mrs. Firiehiwot Mekonnen, Ethiopian Airlines’ Area Manager in Nigeria. “Most of our passengers will now arrive at their destinations faster. We are also rewarding loyal customers with additional baggage allowance and double miles on select routes.”

The additional baggage offer applies to passengers flying from Abuja to Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Dubai.

Ethiopian Airlines 787-8 economy

Ethiopian Airlines has served the Nigerian market since 1960 and currently connects Abuja, Lagos, Enugu and Kano to more than 150 international destinations. Its latest expansion will be operated with the A350-1000 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner, two of its newest aircraft.

With world-class facilities and enhanced airlift, Abuja is steadily carving out its place on the continent’s MICE map, offering international delegates a mix of modern conference amenities and seamless travel access.
